With my 14 year old we bought a $400 dollar crib (which was a lot back then) he barely slept in it, he slept with me. My mom bought a used crib for about $100 for my second, again we co slept. With breastfeeding co sleeping was so much easier.
I know it is your first baby and you want all new stuff, but they use stuff so little, sometimes not even at all; used is the way to go. Except on a

As far as furniture goes as long as the item isnt being recalled buy used. Baby stuff is used so gently bc 1-hello baby!? lol and 2-babies arent babies for long.

For cribs, I was most concerned about safety, not style. The Emily crib by DaVinci is reasonable and most highly rated by consumer reports. We got it when our 14-month-old was about 6 months, and we have been very pleased with it.

I'm nearly six feet tall and it didn't bother my back. I would never change a baby on top of something high like a dresser or changing table. Babies roll sooner than you think. It just makes sense not to place them upon something high.

We got both of our cribs used. Both were solid wood. The first one cost us $50 (in 1998) and the second one cost us $300 (in 2002). Before buying new, check out used cribs. Some people get beautiful cribs and barely even used them, preferring to keep the baby in their own bed, so you might be able to score an almost brand new crib for half the price. Honestly, check Craig's list every night around 7 or 8 PM (these are times when a lot of people list stuff) for at least 2 weeks before you buy something new. The last three pieces of furniture I bought were from CL, and one item (my coffee table) is a West Elm that I got in literally brand new condition for less than half of what it would have been in the store.

Good grief. Target has similar cribs for less than $300. Get a used dresser off of craigslist, and before you spend $1,000 on a chair for nursing, you might want to be sure your wife is ACTUALLY going to breastfeed. Since she works, I could see her deciding not to go that route just because of the huge inconvenience.

This may or may not be a popular opinion I'm going to give, but you can buy a crib from Ikea from about $100 (maybe $200?) and it'll be fine. The reason baby furniture costs so much is because the manufacturers figure you will pay for it. People are naturally excited about having a baby and psychology is 95% of economics when it comes to marketing products to people.

She'll spend many many hours in there, nursing and rocking in the middle of the night, and later you'll spend time in there reading books and rocking as well!
