The Baby Shower

This past Saturday my mom hosted a Baby Shower for our baby. I got to fill in for the wife since she has to stay home and rest. I had a great time and it was nice to take a break from doing stuff at home and worrying about the new job. I got to see a lot of friends and family and my mom did a great job with the decor and food. We had around 30 guests and they drank 11 bottles of wine and 10 bottles of pink champagne. I wasn't aware ladies drank so much during baby showers but it made it more fun.

The gifts... I think we got most of the items we registered for but we also got a lot of duplicates. The most popular item and the one people bought the most was the Boppy nursing and pregnancy pillow. I'm pretty sure the wife only requested one but we ended up with four of these things:

I think these pillows are $49.99 at Babies R Us so I will probably take back three of them and get a store gift card. The plan is to stock up on gift cards for things like diapers or other baby items that we don't know we need yet.

I have a lot of work to do in the nursery in the coming weeks. The wife can't help with anything so it was very overwhelming looking at all the stuff last night. There's so much to do and I don't even know where to start. Please come over and help me! I have no clue how to decorate a nursery or how to setup most of the stuff we got.

Yes, you only need one boppy. But you may want to think about an extra cover, incase of soiling. Boppy is good for nursing, but it is also good to help with supporting baby on the floor (under supervision of course!).

It is overwhelming to see it all. Breathe!

Oh, and help the Mrs. with the thank you notes.....I too had a husband who got to go to a shower and I didn't...so he had all the fun eating cake and opening presents. And I wrote all the notes....it sucked.

I'd just set up the basics and do any prep work (painting, cleaning, etc.). Then your wife can have the fun of decorating after the baby is born; it won't get less fun just because the baby is there.

One quick suggestion - I ended up buying a 2nd boppy for two reasons.

(1) Those first couple weeks post partum you are SOOOORE, and it was nice to actually sit on one (if you get my drift) while I used the other on my lap for nursing.

(2) Our nursery is upstairs, so all the midnight nursing were done up there, but the daytime nursings were done down in our LVRM, and it was SOOO nice to have a boppy in both places.

Definitely a "nice to have" instead of "need" to have two, but that's my two cents! You definitely don't need four. :)

lol! Do you know the gender of the baby? Gift cards are a good idea... :)

Just set up the nursery however you want to, she'll be glad you did it & it's finally done. She can "fix" things when she's back on her feet.

I agree with J.o.s.e.y - Our nursery is upstairs and we kept one on each floor, it makes it so much easier without having to carry it up and down the stairs.

My top baby products were 1. rocking chair/glider in the nursery, it made those night time feeds so much better. 2. white noise/sound machine 3. swing

As for clothes, all you really need are some onesies, and swaddle blankets, and burp rags. You'll do great!
