Weekend Spending - End of July

Another weekend is over and I think we managed to control our spending. I had no alcohol, no going out to bars and not a lot of eating out. Below are all our weekend expenses that went on our Bank of America check card:

On Friday, the wife spent $25 on nails; it was actually $20 with a $5 dollar tip. Friday night we were too tired to cook so we had some Chick-Fil-A. We usually split one meal and I get a salad so it was only $10.76. Saturday morning we had a volunteer function so we picked up some breakfast on the way at McDonald’s and that was $8.75. We ate the rest of the weekend meals at home which is why we had to hit HEB, our local grocery store and spent $76. That food should last us until next Friday and I’m going to try and bring my lunch to work this week. Other than that I needed a couple of home items from Walmart and spent $20 there. My Dry Cleaners bill was only $12 and the wife snuck a smoothie somewhere in there for $4.56.

We also had some cash on hand so we went to the movies and watched Crazy, Stupid, Love for $15 since it was an early show. We didn’t get any snacks so it was a cheap date. I loved the movie! Go see it, it was awesome!!

Hope everyone had a good weekend.

I dunno, WAS that a great weekend? Can the wife really not do her own nails? I give myself manicures and pedicures, my hands and feet look amazing. It's really not hard to do.

Also, a smoothie? Easy to make at home - and LESS THAN A DOLLAR. Went out to eat twice? Like, seriously? You know you can't really afford to be doing that and buying groceries. It doesn't take too long to pop a pre-made pizza for $5 into the oven for 15 minutes. Just saying.

Ronnie!

Hey! the wife is high maintenance so I can't say do nails at home but it would be nice... she actually took them off and is not planning on getting them done again for a while.. hopefully that save us a little bit more $$

I know, we can make stuff at home but sometimes after work etc it's just easier to pick something up... and yes I make awesome smoothies lol

Congrats on your weight loss!

Geez Ronnie, lighten up. From them blowing 300 in one night at a bar to spending half of that over the course of an entire weekend is a huge improvement.

I'll also say that I'm not high maintenance and I do like getting my nails done every now and then. Can I do it myself? Yes. Do I most of the time? Yes. Do I still like going out and having it done? Yes.

HS - Great improvement. It's awesome to see you guys clearly trying hard to rein it all in. Remember, you can absolutely keep it up as long as you keep it realistic. Which is what you're doing.

Have you thought about a weekly cash allowance each? It would help with the random spending.

You make enough money that you should be able to allow something like $50-$60 a week each for personal things like nails, fast food, etc. That way you spend your personal money how you like, and when it's gone you quit spending.

It means you're not racking up credit card debt and paying interest on stupid things like a $4 smoothie or the chicken sandwich that you ate 5 months ago.

Progress...good job. Slow and steady wins the race. If you do too much at once, you will feel deprived. I think you did well.

I'll have to look into that movie...always looking for good ones..

I'm in the improvement camp with this one--great work! I also second the weekly allowance thing. Once it's gone, it's gone. I've written a post about how I utilize this idea myself--feel free to check it out!

I think this was a great weekend for you guys! and $20 for your wife to get her nails done is a pretty good price for a little bit of pampering!

I also agree with the weekly splurge money. Set the same amount each week, take it in cash, and when it's gone stop spending!!!

Also great job tracking the spending.
