Fast forward 3 weeks later and we have a positive pregnancy test. The HCG levels are very low so at this point we're not really sure what to make of all this. The wife is under a lot of stress from school (first day today) and I'm worried this could have an impact on things. I've decided to let FAITH decide the rest, there's not a lot I can do at this point.
I would also like to apologize for brining in all this talk about infertility to this blog. This procedure did take a huge toll on our finances. We spent close to $2,000 dollars so going forward I'm going to try and keep the focus on the financial aspect of things. I don't want to mix in the emotional side as this has become a sensitive issue for us.
I'll leave you with the wall of babies at the fertility clinic, I'm the guy that stares at it for hours. There are 3 of these walls and tons of twins and triplets and of course happy parents:

I hope your journey the next 9 months is smooth sailing. Taking a positive and proactive mindset, I offer you this one piece of advice to consider...... As you will be living on reduced income when she goes on mat leave, perhaps, you two can explore what her benefits are and practice living on only that amount for the pregnancy. You can tuck the balance of her cheque aside or use it to pay off debt.
I had low levels of HCG as well. It was killer waiting to see the results of the next test and praying for that number to double. I feel for you both - it is not something I would like to relive. I am hoping for the best!
good luck! I'll be crossing my fingers for you.
...also - it's called personal finance for a reason - it's personal. Write about whatever is going on in your life and don't worry about not sticking to a specific topic.
Congrats! Remember, HCG levels for IVF can seem low depending on when you test. They should be doubling every 48-72 hrs. I am sure they will monitor things.
My one word of caution...and this may be too late. As hard as it is....don't tell that many people. If things don't work out...it is horrible having to "untell" people.
I agree, we've only told the mom's and a few siblings..

I like reading about your fertility experience. As much as this blog is about your finances it is also about your life. A baby is a big part of both! Best wishes and lots of prayers to you and the Mrs.

So happy to hear it, I hope all goes well! And I agree with others about personal finance being *personal*. Don't feel bad about sharing it if you want to, and if it makes you feel better.
That is amazing --- just keep positive & try to help her as much as possible so she isn't stressed!!!!
thinking happy thoughts for you!
Congratulations!
Congratulations! I wish a happy and healthy nine months to you both.
Aw. I wish you the very best. You deserve it. I
know it's stressful but soon this part will be behind
you. Hang in there, man. :-)
Yes, please continue to keep us updated on the baby. I don't know a lot about IVF, and I want to say Congratulations! AND, I will also be saying lots of prayers for you and your wife that everything goes smoothly from here on out.
I sincerely hope the beta numbers doubled to where they should be, and if not, I am so sorry.
I don't understand why everyone is congratulating you. You're obviously not in a good financial situation to bring a child into this world. I commend you for trying to clear your debt and while I understand that your wife's "clock" is ticking - you should focus your energy on cleaning up your debt first.
