White iPhone 4

We had to get the wife the new white iPhone 4 last night. Believe it or not she had her 3G iPhone in her back pocket, went to pee and didn't realize it was there until she heard it fall in. She looked down and it was completely under the water, in a public bathroom. She got it out but it was too late, the phone is dead.

The timing was strange, Apple just released the mysterious white iPhone last night. We had to wait for an hour but we got one. The money came from the emergency fund, she was hysterical and crying... all her information, contacts, emails and appointments were on her previous phone. She had to get a new phone asap!

Look how beautiful this phone is:

Have a good weekend!

It is pretty, but really??? Is it a need? I'm thinking of ditching my phone to get a prepaid phone.

Well she's used to the iPhone and would never go back to any other phone, so in a way it was a need.. her life revolves around that device LOL

It's interesting reading your blog...you describe things that I definitely see as wants as needs for you guys. But since you get all your toys, you can't say that your wife shouldn't get a new iPhone. I will say that it's hard to read your blog though, because you go from posting about how you guys might lose your jobs to posting about buying a new iPhone. I'm a teacher worrying about getting laid off too, so I just called T-Mobile and got rid of internet on my phone to save money each month. To each his own, I guess.

But yes, the white iPhone is very pretty. Did she get a cover?

I totally support your wife's decision! I use my iPhone for EVERYTHING - if something happens to mine, you can bet I'll be at the AT&T store in a hurry.

No, an iPhone isn't a need, but neither is a computer. But when something makes your life that much easier, it's money well spent.

Yes, it's a choice. So is owning a computer. But when something makes your life significantly easier, I think it is worth the cost.

I'm caught between criticizing you or not here... If I lost or damaged my iPhone (black iPhone 4) I would use my old shitty LG shine for a week or two waiting for my next paycheque before buying another iPhone. I keep my old phone around exactly for this purpose, since I've lost phones before.

I think a phone is a need, but I don't think an iPhone is... But whatever, it doesn't matter really.

I don't really like the white iPhone, it's thicker than the black for some reason. iPhone 4 is rad though, any color.

And you could have bought a used iPhone 3G on Ebay to replace the one that was damaged for a LOT less than you paid for the new shiny white iPhone4.

I just spent the last 40 mins reading through all your posts and it's obvious to me that you have no desire to get out of debt or save money and be responsible.

You keep saying we "need" this. Do you really know what a need vs. a want is? I don't think so.

And why couldn't you buy a used iPhone 3G off of Ebay if an iPhone is such a necessity?

You really don't want to get out of debt or save money. If you did, you wouldn't be talking about all these things you "need".

Forties..

Iphone 3g?? that's a 3 year old model, I don't think it can keep up with apps.

I can always sell her iPhone 4 when a new one comes out.

But you said the 3G fell in the toilet...if it was fine before, why not buy a used one until you're out of debt? I get the desire for a new toy, but it seems very "keeping up with the Joneses" to buy the brand new one, especially when you are already in debt.

I have shopped with this mentality in the past for sure, but it was definitely before I had a PF blog or had learned much about living without debt. Sometimes I think your readers are your priests and you come here for confession. Your penance is everyone's comments scolding you, I guess?

"Forgive me readers, for I have spent..."

You could have saved the phone by using a rice and a zip lock bag. It was a want not a need.

From what I have read from your blog, you are not serious about getting out of debt. Your post about all the spending you did in Vegas was ridiculous!
