Discover Card Year End Statement

According to our year end statement from Discover card, we charged close to $13,000 dollars in 2010. Below are the categories, as you can see we love to travel and be entertained. I haven't seen the numbers from Citi but I think we spent just as much with those cards. I'm not sure what to make of these numbers. I am probably the only debt blogger out there who still using credit cards, can't learn to budget and spends money frivolously:

On a positive note, we paid back close to $9,000 but that leaves us with close to $4,000 to pay back. I'm hoping this year won't be as expensive. Don't forget all this spending is for 2 people and a dog so things like merchandise are probably necessities.

I'll see if I can pull the Citi numbers, I didn't see a year end statement on their site.

I found last year's year end statement: http://www.ourdebtblog.com/2009/10/discover-12-month-summary.html

It is so nice of Discover to show you how much they appreciate you using paying them to live beyond your means. What are you going to do to live with in your means this year?

Great question and one that I ask myself every year, truth is I don't know the answer to that question... the wife wants nothing to do with the finances so it makes it difficult for me to plan. I'm starting to think maybe my marriage is the reason I spend so much money LOL

Well, I am a financial blogger and I still use credit cards... you you are not alone! I get about $300 a year in gas cards for using my Marathon Mastercard. But, I always pay the card in full each month. I treat it like cash - if I can't afford to pay cash for an item I can't afford to charge it. There are lots of things I want (I also love to travel) but i don't always give in and spend the money. If I can do it, I know you can too!

I have the same wants as you do...but you're right to wait until you can actually afford the ipod before you buy it.

Nope. You aren't the only one who is having trouble with finances. I've been asking myself the question "Do I really need this?" before I buy anything. But I have had to use mt credit card a few times in the last few weeks too.
