Another reason for closing is their rewards program is not as generous as it used to be. I remember four years ago they use to offer 10% cash back on eating out, I doubt we will see offers like that again. We've made a lot of money using cash back, well over $500 but recently we average 8 dollars a month. I still have to cash in our Cash Back rewards before closing.

I'll believe it when you post to say "It's closed - we're done". You said 'goodbye' in May too and then racked up a balance again.
Wishing you guys good luck, but I'm skeptical based on how your focus has switched from halting credit use to travel and iphones. ;)
Christy! don't worry I will request a letter from them and post it just for you ;)

I'll keep an eye open for it. :)
You information was very informative.
Good riddance to it I say. It was my discover card that was costing me a ton of money to pay off. As soon as i cleared the balance, I chopped it up and never looked back.
Just read your side bar re: selling Iphones. You are aware that you will have to pay taxes on the income you are earning doing this, right? You will declare it as miscellaneous income. Make sure you set aside about 30 percent of your profits to pay when the time comes.
This card is the only one that would not drop the interest rate. It is the least customer friendly company that I had to deal with. We, like so many others are in a financial quantry. After 25 years of relationship, they would not drop the interest rate from 22.9 %.
Discover Card is a crappy company and very unfriendly.
At the first of August 2009, I received some convenience checks in the mail from them. On August 15, 2009, I checked online to make sure everything was okay. The account showed open, credit line $10,000, available credit $10,000. So, I used one of the convenience checks.
On August 18, 2009, Discover sent me a notice that due to inactivity they had closed my account (dated August 14, 2009.) I went online and my account still showed open, with a credit line of $10,000 and now available credit of $9,965. Yes, there was a $35 fee for then returning the convenience check.
I checked with my bank. Yep, they had returned the convenience check. This had caused my own checks to bounce, and now I am dealing with an onslaught of bounced check charges, overdraft charges, merchant return check charges, and yes, a return check charge from Discover.
Discover response was to the effect "so sad, to bad." But they could evaluate, if I reapplied, to see if I could get another card. Yea, right - - after this giant mess - - I wouldn't touch a Discover card.
WHAT A MICKEY MOUSE ORGANIZATION !!
