Credit Card Rewards

I'm still addicted to credit cards, mainly for the rewards! Last month I cashed in a $25 gift card to Wal-Mart from Thank You network. Those points came from using our Citi Professional card last year:

Discover cash back is even better! Our Discover spending spree back in February gave us a lot of cash back. We currently have $38.67, we need to spend $150 or so more to cash in $40.00! Last year we got $60 cash back to our savings account and a $25 gift card to Bed Bath and Beyond, all just for using the card. I feel bad since we haven't paid any finance charges to them in over 2 years.

I wonder if they read this blog, I'm sure Discover would not be too happy.

this sounds totally crazy to me. You are going to spend $150 to get $40. Why dont you just spend $40 of your own money and save yourself $90.

Hedder02,

That makes sense but if I have to pay $150 dollar bill for example, why not put it on Discover and get $40?

I agree with Hedder02. Discover would not be upset with how you are using your card, they'd be thrilled! You have a weakness for silly promotions, and they get kickbacks every time you make a purchase from a local store. There's also a high chance I'd say that you're going to fall back into credit card debt with the way you spend so -- bonus -- they could end up earning interest off you sometime as well!

You're spending more money to get some money from them. That's why it's so easy to use credit rather than cash, the emotion isn't a factor. A crisp $100 bill spends different than throwing a credit card down. I've discovered it is 100% to my benefit to spend money I already have. There's a reason they call these things promos is that the promote you to do something you know better.
