My goal for opening this new account would be to replace the PremierPass card and also keep the Citi Professional card. The wife would keep her Discover card and I’m hoping she will give up the Macy’s card.
In the future I would like to charge all our daily spending to the Citi credit cards. The only problem is that we haven’t learned how to use credit wisely. If you read my previous Discover posts you can see we are not there yet. We need to treat credit like cash and not spend lavishly with credit cards. It would be nice to pay for things in full when the bill comes due and not have to blog about feeling guilty for charging $2,200 dollars.
The ultimate goal would be to put everything on credit cards and reap all the rewards. Recently I cashed in a $25 gift card to Wal-Mart courtesy of Citi and we also have $40 in Discover Cash Back bonuses.

In defense of your wife keeping her Macy's card...Macy's has this policy of only giving the discounts on purchases by using their card. I tried to fight this years ago to no avail. I have a Macy's card for Macy's purchases which I pay in full usually the next day. I guess I play their game, only they don't get the profit for interest charges which are very high. So....
On this Citi card, what do you get for the points?
I think you only get these rewards if you carry a monthly balance. then it is not worth it, plus cash forces you to not overspend
Sharon, I agree the Macy's card is horrible, I can't believe you only get the discounts if you use the card. They also charge an additional service fee if the balance is not paid in full every month, that's on top of standard APR of 23%!
This new citi card has great rewards if you eat out a lot, so if you spend 1200 on dining purchases, that's a $50 gift card.

Having a credit card these days is like having a double-edged sword - it cuts on both sides. Although there are good points of having a credit card, we need to be careful so that the debt can be managed.

This sounds like a bad idea (just my 2 cents). Big deal, you get $50 each year. (I really have no idea how much you would really get, making up a number).
With cash, you will have the satisfaction of paying for things without the hassle (and potential fees) of a credit card. The points never seem to be worth it. In fact, you have said this yourself. And you will never have to worry about overspending because you will only spend what you have. Stay strong! :)
Debt Free
Making goals to repair your credit and get out of debt is easy to do. But keeping them isn't always so easy. With the right approach, you can reach any goal
Jonathan over at My Money Blog has a great post about this card:

I think before taking on any type of credit card debt, you always need to ensure that it is the right type for you, or it could easily slip out of control.
NO credit card is good if you cannot afford to pay it back.
