Looks like I’m another victim of this economy. I was given notice yesterday that my last day with the company will be January 31, 2009. I was told that I need to find a new role within the company or be out of a job at that date.
I’m not angry or upset, but I’m a little disappointed. This is the best company I have ever worked for. They have so many perks, great bonuses, a 6% dollar per dollar 401k match, cheap benefits etc. I think what upsets me the most is that I will no longer be part of a great firm.
They are giving me a month of pay as part of severance and they will pay one month in COBRA.I have another month of vacation pay saved up. This will of course impact my debt plans.
Part of me knew this was coming but I was in denial. I have been applying to new roles for 6 months now with no luck, so the next few months should be interesting.

I am so sorry to hear that. I wonder if you can get a position within the company?or is it too difficult? Sre they giving you severance? At least you dont have much debt and you have your mini emergency fund and plus severance package.Good luck with the job search.
I'm sorry. I hope your job search goes well.
I am so sorry to hear about your job loss. Hopefully this will make way for something far better for you. Every best wish for your future.
Wow, I'm sorry to hear this, altho with the economy, it really doesn't surprise me, it's happening where I live, too. Are you two willing/able to relocate for jobs, because I know that some areas of the country are a bit better off than others... good luck to you both!
So sorry to hear about your job loss. I'm wishing you the best of luck in your search for a new position!
That's a rough thing to get at this time of the New Year. I'm not sure what could happen with my job either. A couple of people on my team have been laid off, but nobody knows how deep the cuts will go. It makes me think what I would do it if happened.
What I came up with is saving the extra money I have each month, pooling vacation time, filing taxes soon so any refund I get can be saved. There's a possibility that I might get a bonus this year, we were already told it won't happen last year, so if one comes I'll save that too. From what I have heard severance where I'm at is 3 weeks to a max of 3 months pay. Good luck with the job situation.
I'm so sorry to hear about this! Good luck with your job search-I hope you are able to find something soon!
I's sorry to hear this. Hopefully, you will find something soon.
Thanks everyone for your kind words, I am talking to HR today about possible roles at our client site.

Man, that's rough. This economy is just plain scary! I hope you find a replacement soon.
The restaurant I work for has been slashing hours as well. Doesn't help that both my son and I work at the same place. He just got laid off until spring, and they called today to tell me to "stay home today".
BTW: regarding your comment on my blog -- Yes, that's me! Thanks for the compliment (although I don't feel that young!)
Oh dear, that's not happy news. But it can only lead to something better!!! Hopefully you can begin looking before your time is up and not lose a paycheck. Good luck in your job search!
yikes. I hope you find something soon.
I'm so very sorry. :(
