I found a new project with my company! So I am no longer laid off! Thank god, it was the most awful feeling, I was a bit scared and uncertain about the future. I am glad I still have a job and I hope others who are in the same boat find something soon.
I am a consultant and the project is at our client site, located in the center of town. I'm going to be part of a team that's setting up a new IT system.

Yes I get to keep all the same benefits (plus a few more like reimburstment for transportation to the client site) and this position is good until January 2010... hopefully the economy recovers by the new project is over.

I don't think IT is in trouble. It's the companies that have either neglected to pay attention to other costs, or the government messing with the indistries that are hurting budgets. If there's not enough money to keep everyone around, they always look at job cuts to fix the problem. I'm not overly concerned about this stuff because I could go somewhere else. It's just a pain in the ass to have to go find another job and not knowing how long it might take.
