OMG! We have a debt addiction! I ordered new Discover Cards to take advantage of the 5% cashback promotions coming up this year. Upon receiving and activating the new cards, we went ahead and charged $2,219! This is after having a cash christmas, reducing CITI and promising myself to be more frugal in 2009.
All charges were made in January. I’m starting to think we should not have any credit cards, but I love having plastic, it gives me a rush when I charge things, I get a strange high when I pay with credit. But now as I’m writing this I feel guilt… The wife doesn’t care, she watches me charge, knows I have a system, she knows I always pay bills on time etc. I don’t know, if I have a system then I should not feel guilty. We are back to cash only again.
I already made a $1000.00 payment before the statement came. The plan is to pay this off in February, I returned some household items we bought and I’m going to make another payment to bring down the balance to $1000. The plan is to make two $500 payments with each paycheck in February.
Now some positive news, if you look to the right under balances, Best Buy is ZERO! I’ll do a post on that when the payment clears.
I need debt help!!

Wow! What did you charge? Don't beat yourself up. Just pick yourself up, dust yourself off and get back on track. You have been doing great!
You ordered new cards? I don't even know what you bought that ran up over 2 grand. The justification of your use of credit makes you sound like a pot-head that wants to legalize marijuana. You know it's stupid but get a high doing it, then feel guilty about it later. At least it sounds like you'll pay this thing off quick. Glad you wiped out Best Buy too. I have to admit I saw this post and the first thing I thought was WTF. Glad you snapped out of it and are back on track.
You know what they say..The first step is admitting that you have a problem!
Glad to see that your emergency fund is fully funded!
Everyone makes steps backwards on their debt free journey. It's really important that you realize this "addiction" you have to debt. :) And good for you for returning everything.
So now that you know about this addiction, will you be cutting up the cards?
What did I buy, well I decided to put all house bills, gas, groceries and eating out on credit... the 1000 payment was supposed to cover the amount, but what they say is true, you always spend more when you use credit.
Funny... I just got a letter today from Discover... they raised my limit!! (thanks, but NO thanks!)
I have decided to go 'all cash, all the time' starting with Friday's paychecks... hubby cannot seem to keep track of the debit card receipts, gets me in trouble with the bank (who is also my employer... how embarrassing!)
LOVE the cash only system!
Great Job on Best Buy!!
