My One And Only Goal For 2008

I see a lot of goals for the New Year on the blogs I read. I guess I have to to post my own. I don’t want to lose weight or make a million dollars or quit drinking, my only goal for 2008 is get rid of the CITI balance. I hate this balance, why in the world is my credit limit $17, 7800 dollars? I am too young to have a credit line that high. No one should have that much credit available to them on one card. I can purchase a car with this credit card!!! Someone should be fired at CITI!

For years It feels like I’ve been winning all the battles against credit cards, paying them on time, getting rewards, free travel, cash back etc. but it looks like CITI won the war. I pay around $140 on interest every month. That really hurts. I can’t continue to have this balance hanging around; it is time to pay this off. We came up with a simple plan, to pay $1000 dollars a month until it’s paid off. It could take 12 months but my goal is to never miss that payment amount.

So, again, my only goal for 2008 is to pay off $11,660.00 balance with CITI. Happy 2008 everyone! Come back and check on my progress next year and remind me how much I hate this card.

Sounds like a fantastic goal with a HUGE payoff for you!!

The last debt?! That's amazing!
I can only wish I was sitting where you are! Actually our Citi balances are close to the same - I just have a handful of more debts BESIDES the Citi! LOL

Hi! I saw you posted a comment on my blog. I too would love a new car, but it is not a possibility. I have a 1992 Dodge Shadow with no payment. Mary Hunt has a newsletter and website about debt. She say to make the car payment to yourself (say $400 a month) until you can pay cash for a new car. It is a good idea. And of course adding new debt when you still have old is silly. As soon as I start getting all my child support again I am going to put $200 a month away to be used for another car when I need it and car repairs. We can be proud of any car, even an older one. Keep it clean and washed as you would a new one, you will feel good. Keep up the debt proof living. Happy New Year! ps- I am 28, too

That sounds like an awesome goal. I'd like to do the same thing and my debt is half that. My probelm is that I can't seem to find any extra money in my budget. I guess that would be MY goal.

That's a great goal! I'm going to keep reading. Our 2008 goals are similar. I want to pay down $9000 on my credit card.

Remember to call the bank and tell them to turn off that automatic credit limit increase.

Just wanted to wish you a happy new year! Looks like we'll be in Houston for sure, probably in June-ish.

Excited, yet scared all at once, but the future is looking fantastic. We should exchange email addys before I move, as having someone with the inside scoop will help me transition (I live in a town of about 68 thousand. Houston is huge-o-mungus).

What is your credit like? Have you thought about trying to balance transfer to a 0% card?

a balance transfer is a good idea, at least you get a bit of a breather on the interest for 6 months.
I am fed up with looking at my CC balnce as well, but first I have to pay the tax bill...

I have a great debt score, but no other company will give me a brand new credit card with a limit as high as 10,000! I applied for an Amex card and got 5,000 credit line, so not enough. Maybe when I get the balance down I can do this.

I've been there with high credit card debt. IMO, it's not a good idea to say no to credit line increases, unless you have trouble staying disciplined with your spending. Those increases help your credit score by making you appear less maxed out.
